Wuppertaler SV went into the winter break with a 4:0 win. The new year should continue in the same positive vein.
After a turbulent week – Kevin Pytlik is no longer captain and three suspensions – Wuppertaler SV bid farewell to the winter break with a 4-0 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach II.
WSV went into the break nine points off the pace. The season started so promisingly. 16 out of a possible 18 points were scored, followed by a run of five games in a row without a win.
The final third of the half-season was even more turbulent. Hüzeyfe Dogan had to leave. U19 coach Christian Britscho took over. Ersan Parlatan will take over in the new year.
For Gaetano Manno, promotion is far from over, as the head of sport explains in the Forecasting interview.

… Wuppertaler SV’s first half of the season: “I think more would have been possible overall in terms of our position in the table. We just have to improve, get more consistency and then I think we’ll play a good second half of the season and attack again. Because we haven’t been able to achieve what we set out to do so far.”
… the best moment of the past round? “That was of course the 2:1 on matchday 1 in Aachen in front of 28,000 fans. That was simply sensational and emotionally hard to beat. We were behind and then scored two goals in stoppage time to win. That was a dream start. After that, we took the euphoria with us and performed for six match days. Until we got into a hole.”
… the worst moment of the half-season? “The 0:1 at SSVg Velbert was really bad. It was a derby and our fans were bitterly disappointed. Nothing went right in that performance. We started without any body language. You can’t win a soccer match like that.”
… the goals for 2024: “I want all the players to be healthy. We want to prepare properly for the rest of the season from January 7, including a training camp in Turkey. We still have 15 finals to play, a nine-point deficit and we really have to treat every game as a final. If we win all the finals, we’ll achieve our goal. “
