Germania Ratingen 04/19 can now fully concentrate on the remaining four Oberliga matches after the biggest success in the club’s history.
The jubilation at Germania Ratingen 04/19 was great after the 3-0 victory at SV Sonsbeck. Because last weekend, the Ratingen team clinched their semi-final ticket in the Lower Rhine Cup with this success.
“The mayor also congratulated us personally as the board of the club. It is the biggest success for our club so far. In 2015, we were in the quarter-finals, now we’re in the semi-finals. That’s amazing,” says 04/19 boss Jens Stieghorst proudly.
And now it could come to a revenge from 2015. Back then, Germania Ratingen lost 0:2 at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Should RWO win its quarter-final at district league team ASV Mettmann, then it would come down to a duel between Ratingen and Oberhausen. “That won’t be easy for RWO. After all, ASV recently knocked out Oberliga leaders SSVg Velbert. As Velbert’s league rivals, we already know how strong SSVg is,” says Stieghorst.
He adds: “In the end, it doesn’t matter to us whether we play against Mettmann or Oberhausen. The goal will be the same: “We want to get into the DFB Cup! When you’re in the semi-finals, you can’t say anything else. The DFB Cup is our big dream. “
In the league, Ratinger are currently nine points behind SSVg Velbert. Four games, including three home games, are still to be played. Stieghorst: “We still play Velbert and Uerdingen. Maybe we can close the gap a bit. Before the season, we wanted to get closer to the top. We have achieved that. Let’s see if we can also end up with a better place in the table than last year’s fifth place.”
When Ratinger host SC St. Tönis on Sunday (3pm), they will also return to their arena at Stadionring. Until now, Germania played their home games at the district sports facility. “The work on the stadium is finished. We have a great stadium and are looking forward to real home games again and hopefully lots of points,” says Stieghorst.
