ETB will play in Baumberg on Sunday (August 24, 3 p.m.). Coach Dennis Czayka praises the opponent and expects a successful season for his team.
ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen has not started the season in the Oberliga Niederrhein as hoped. After a strong previous season, which saw the “Schwatten” finish third in the table, newly promoted VfL Jüchen-Garzweiler took a point from the Uhlenkrug after a rather harmless performance by Essen.
The Essen team used the week of training to play a test match against the U19 team of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen: “All the guys need to stay in rhythm. That’s why we scheduled this game during the week,” summarized ETB coach Dennis Czayka.
Things should go better on Sunday (August 24, 3 p.m.). ETB is away to Sportfreunde Baumberg. Like Schwarz-Weiß, the hosts also started the season with a point. The Blue and Whites drew 1-1 against KFC Uerdingen.
Coach Czayka expects a strong performance from Baumberg: “They are an experienced Oberliga team that has strengthened well over the summer,” explained the coach.
In the medium term, our goal is to reclaim second place in the city.

In addition to the opposing team, Czayka also sees the home turf as a challenge for his players: “We have to accept the conditions on the ground. It’s obviously a different game on the artificial turf at Sandstraße. We’ll just have to make sure we bring the right intensity to the pitch,” said the 42-year-old.
ETB wants to confirm its good position in the table from last season this year as well: “There have been some changes in our squad. Accordingly, everything still needs to gel and develop a little. Nevertheless, our goal is once again to finish in the top third, and we have the quality in the squad to do so,” Czayka made clear.
In addition to the season goals, the ETB coach also made a small announcement directed at city rivals SpVg Schonnebeck, who finished second in the Oberliga in each of the past two years, ahead of Schwarz-Weiß Essen: “Schonnebeck have done really well in recent years. In the medium term, our goal is to reclaim second place in the city,” explained the Schwarz-Weiß coach.
