After a disastrous start to the season, Wuppertal SV seemed to be on the right track. But there were two setbacks on the last two matchdays.
After the first four match days, Wuppertaler SV had only managed to get one point. They drew 1:1 against Türkspor Dortmund. The games against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (1:5), Eintracht Hohkeppel (1:3) and SC Paderborn II (1:4) were lost without a fight.
Gaetano Manno, sporting director of Wuppertaler SV, was quick to respond to the alarming start to the season. His words bore fruit, with WSV going on to pick up ten points from four games. But now came the next setback.
After the 0-3 at SV Rödinghausen, the WSV conceded the next heavy beating after the 1-5 against RWO and 1-4 against the Paderborn U21 junior team: 1-5 was the final score against the also crisis-stricken 1. FC Bocholt.
And for the second time this season, sports director Manno had to make a sweeping statement. “We will address the facts even more clearly, because it can’t go on like this. We are in the middle of the relegation battle. The team knows how I tick and feel about it. Anyone who doesn’t feel like marching along can come to my office and dissolve their contract right away,” Manno rumbled in mid-August 2024.
I’m disappointed and angry. I expect more from everyone. People know that. I haven’t seen a team that’s on the right track. There are no excuses. I’m sorry for the fans who came. This is not what I had in mind.

The 42-year-old gave free rein to his frustration again after the 1-5 defeat to Bocholt in an interview with the “Wuppertaler Rundschau”. Manno said angrily: “That was a disaster! We fell into old patterns, had no mentality and no body language. We will question everything. If you lead 1-0, you have to take control of the game. Instead, we were far too passive. The 1-1 was on the cards. After that, nothing came.”
The former professional continued: ”I’m disappointed and angry. I expect more from everyone. People know that. I haven’t seen a team that is on the right track. There are no excuses. I’m sorry for the fans who came. This is not what I had in mind.”
Everything is to be questioned. It stands to reason that the coaching question could also be asked at Wuppertaler SV. After all, after ten match days, the WSV is just four points above the line in the first non-relegation spot. Far too little for the WSV’s ambitions.
Coach Rene Klingbeil is well aware of this. Just last Sunday (October 6), the fourth coaching dismissal of the current Regionalliga West season took place. SC Wiedenbrück reacted
