Welsh and English hooligans come to blows in Tenerife

There have been brawls between British football fans on the Spanish holiday island of Tenerife over the past two nights.

Supporters from both countries clashed in the Las Veronicas entertainment district in Playa de las Americas ahead of the World Cup match between England and Wales on Tuesday (8pm CET/MagentaTV).

Videos on social media show violent fighting scenes between people, some of whom are dressed in English and Welsh jerseys. Among other things, bar stools from neighbouring establishments are used as fighting tools.

As the news website El Espanol reports, about 2000 Welsh people are currently on holiday on the Canary Island due to a fan initiative to watch the World Cup there. Tenerife is also a popular holiday destination for English holidaymakers.

England will start Tuesday’s match against their British neighbours as Group B leaders. Wales, with just one point, have only a slim chance of reaching the last 16.
