“We’re a bit like the German national team”

TuS Bövinghausen is lagging behind in the Westphalia Oberliga. Promotion is no longer on the cards for the second half of the season.

TuS Bövinghausen once again started the season with ambitions for the Oberliga Westfaleng. The aim was once again to be promoted to the Regionalliga West. However, it quickly became apparent that the squad was not ready for the Dortmunders’ goals. The fresh start over the winter should at least be enough for the new minimum goal. Because nobody in Bövinghausen is talking about promotion anymore. Rather, the aim now is to increase the gap to the bottom of the table in order to avoid getting into the relegation battle. It will only become clear in the coming weeks who exactly will be on the pitch.

Bövinghausen President Ajan Dzaferoski on…

The first half of the season in the Westphalia Oberliga: “We are definitely dissatisfied. We have a few points, but that’s not nearly enough. We are a bit like the German national team: we have good players who undoubtedly have quality, but the structure was not right. We were not a unit. Sometimes we also lacked luck in the game and we didn’t have a goalgetter who could score.”

Best moment: “That was probably the last-gasp win against Sportfreunde Siegen. We’ve had some interesting games.”

Worst moment: “That was the 5-0 defeat against Sportfreunde Lotte. They’re not bad, but losing by five goals, that’s not on.”

Goals for 2024: “We want to finish in a good single-digit place in the table. The teams above us are all too far away. There are sometimes 17 points between us and the team in ninth place, but if there were nine, it would still be manageable. But we no longer need to look up. We will hold talks with players.”
