The Schalke U23 regional league team, the U19 Bundesliga team and the U17 talents, who are the unbeaten leaders in the B-Junioren Bundesliga, have used the championship break for test matches. The royal blue reserve team won 1:0 against the second team of Borussia Dortmund.
Schalke: U23 test without spectators
The small Revier derby was played in camera for safety reasons. Schalke’s attacking talent Kelsey Meisel, who moved up from the U19s during the summer break, scored the decisive goal against third division side BVB in the 20th minute.
“From my point of view, we played a good game in the first half – with chances to score more goals. Dortmund also had two or three chances to equalise, which Justin Heekeren saved well,” said Schalke’s coach Jakob Fimpel to knappenschmiede.de.
The 34-year-old was absolutely in agreement with the performance of his boys. “In the second 45 minutes we fought well and held our own. All in all, the result was okay. This test match result gives us a good feeling.”
Schalke’s U19s in DFB Cup against 1. FC Cologne
Schalke’s U19s, who will face strong West German rivals 1. FC Köln in the round of 16 of the A-Juniors DFB Cup on 7 October, crossed blades with Mülheim FC 97 and lost 0:2 (0:2) to the senior team. Both goals for the Mülheimers were scored by Emmanuel Yeboah (33./38.). MFC coach Ahmet Inal, former coach of Gelsenkirchen Landesliga team YEG Hassel, said: “It was a very intense game with a lot of tempo. For us, it was a completely different level again. It was not a matter of course to win 2-0 at Schalke.”
Schalke’s U17s, coached by Thomas Bertels, celebrated a 4-1 victory in a test against the U18 youngsters of Dutch first division side Twente Enschede. Fadih Vasic put Schalke, who had recently won 5-0 against MSV Duisburg in the league, in front after just eight minutes. U16 talent Samuel Sackey increased the lead to 2:0 after 20 minutes, and Vasic made it 3:0 shortly before the break (41). Shortly afterwards, Twente scored the equaliser (42nd). The final goal was scored ten minutes before the final whistle by Luca Vozar with a shot into the corner.
