With Marc Lorenz, Max Schulze Niehues and Simon Scherder, three of Münster’s original players were able to clinch promotion to the 3rd division. We have summarized the best statements of the three veterans.
Marc Lorenz is captain of the championship team and has been involved in a total of 17 goals (6 goals, 11 assists) with his left foot to date. For the former SCP youth player, the current promotion is already the sixth, but a very special one:
“When you stand in the corner yourself as a 10-year-old, tinker with flags and then get to lead the club onto the field yourself as captain, it makes you proud. Before the season, I already promised a few people that we would be promoted – because of the high quality in the squad. Being from Münster, it’s of course even more fun to celebrate promotion. “
Max Schulze Niehues returned to SCP in July 2011 after a brief interlude in Düsseldorf and has remained loyal to the club ever since. In the current championship season, he has been between the posts 27 times, scoring twelve times without conceding a goal. Three years ago, he had to make the bitter transition to the fourth division. For him, the championship title is thus special in two respects:
“It’s an absolutely wonderful feeling. In the game you could feel the tension, because you realized this morning at the latest that it could happen today. During the game I had to gulp a time or two. After the final whistle, all the emotions came out. We swore in last year and knew it was our turn this year.”
Simon Scherder has been with the Adlerträgern since 2006 and has been a real constant in SCP’s play this year. With the interim 1:0 against Düsseldorf II, the goal-hungry central defender (three goals and four assists so far) paved the way to the early championship title. Because he, too, was already part of the relegation squad in 2020, the resurgence is also satisfying for him in two respects:
“You can see what’s going on here. We wanted to make up for what we screwed up three years ago. My goal at the time was to bring the ship forward again. In terms of quality, we have the best team in the league this year. We knew before every game that if we gave 100 percent, we’d be better than the opposition. The key was to bring in the consistency. “
