What the coach says about RWE’s 2-2 draw against Unterrath

On Matchday 4 of the U19 Lower Rhine League, Rot-Weiss Essen drew 2-2 (1-2) with SG Unterrath. RWE coach Simon Hohenberg saw two different halves.

After the 5:1 gala in the derby against Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck last matchday, Rot-Weiss Essen’s U19s wanted to continue the positive trend against SG Unterrath on matchday 4 of the U19 Lower Rhine League. After 90 minutes, the scoreboard showed a 2:2 (1:2). RWE coach Simon Hohenberg saw a clear improvement in his team’s performance in the second half.

In the first half, the visitors from Unterrath were the better team and went into the break with a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Bradley-Darcey Junior Asoh (18th) and Nabil Lahrache (45th). For Essen, Sion Beuker (40th) scored the intermediate equaliser. From Essen’s point of view, it could have looked even worse at half-time, but the post and keeper Florian Koch with a strong performance between the posts kept RWE in the game.

“The first half is really difficult to put into words. We couldn’t implement what we set out to do and conceded unnecessary goals. We were very sloppy in the basics and really gave the goals to Unterrath,” the coach summed up with regard to the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, the young Essen side showed a different face and equalised through Milot Ademi (61st). RWE continued to dominate the game and pressed for the winning goal until the end. However, it was not to be.

The opponent was knocked out and we should have won the game, but we just weren’t compelling enough.

“At half-time we talked about a few things and then I saw a completely different second half. We put in a good performance and improved a lot. The opponent was knocked out and we should have won the game, but we just weren’t compelling enough and that’s what we have to deal with at the moment,” explained Hohenberg.

Essen’s U19s find themselves in fourth place in the table with seven points after the point win and will face SC St.Tönis next week.

SC St.Tönis also picked up a point this matchday with a 2-2 draw against Rot Weiß Oberhausen’s U19s and are level on points, one place behind the Essen team.
