Next Saturday (2 p.m., RevierSport live ticker) is the clash between Preußen Münster and Wuppertaler SV. It is also a special match for Sercan Güvenisik.
Preußen Münster against Wuppertaler SV, first place against fifth place, 32 points against 25 points: In this traditional duel, a lot is at stake for both clubs on Saturday (2 p.m., RevierSport live ticker).
Münster could keep WSV at bay with a win. The Wuppertaler, who were already written off by many experts, would be back in the promotion race with a three-goal win.
“It’s an exciting match. That’s why I’m going to watch the game and travel from Hamburg. I’m looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere at Hammer Straße again,” says 42-year-old Sercan Güvenisik.
Güvenisik, who is now a player consultant, played 77 games (27 goals) for Münster. In two and a half years, he took the club and the Preußen fans to his heart. And in the 2010/2011 season, he also celebrated promotion from the Regionalliga to the 3rd League.
And this is also where Wuppertal’s current coach Hüzeyfe Dogan comes into play. For it was Güvenisik who lured Dogan to Münster in September 2010. “I told our president at the time, Marco De Angelis, that Dogan would fit in very well with us. He listened to me and brought Dogan to SCP a few days later,” recalls “King Güve”, as he was once called in Münster.
Hüzeyfe, ‘Coast’ and Manno are super guys. I definitely wish them a lot of success. They also fit great together as a trio. Hüzeyfe is the laid-back type, a great person – the other two are emotional volcanoes who burn for their tasks and always want to succeed. That fits.
Sercan Güvenisik
Güvenisik was to make his contribution to Münster’s promotion in 25 games (seven goals, four assists) and Dogan in 18 games (two goals, four assists). That it did not become more matches was due to coach Marc Fascher’s decisions. “He suspended us in March 2011 (laughs). I think he just wanted to send a signal back then because things weren’t going well. And so it hit Hüzeyfe and me. But it was only a few weeks, we still managed to get a few appearances,” reports Güvenisik.
Even though Münster was the best station in Güvenisik’s career, he hopes for a draw on Saturday. “After all, I also played with Stephan Küsters in Münster and Gaetano Manno in Paderborn. Hüzeyfe, ‘Küste’ and Manno are super guys. I wish them much success in any case. They also fit together great as a trio. Hüzeyfe is the laid-back type, a great person – the other two are emotional volcanoes who burn for their tasks and always want to succeed. It fits.”
But at the end of the day, Güvenisik believes Preußen Münster will win the race. Güvenisik: “Promotion only goes through Preußen. Unless three or four key players get seriously injured. Otherwise, SCP simply has the best, most experienced squad in the league. Peter Niemeyer has done a great job. After three years, it’s time to return to the 3rd division. “
