England’s Tommy Fleetwood secured Europe’s victory over the USA in the 44th Ryder Cup in Rome. He won the decisive point against Rickie Fowler.
When several world-class golfers shed tears, they have just won the Ryder Cup. Team Europe has impressively taken revenge in the prestigious continental competition against the USA for the 9:19 defeat two years ago in Whistling Straits in the US state of Wisconsin. That was a record defeat.
In front of 60,000 enthusiastic fans at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, England’s Tommy Fleetwood managed to get the decisive point against Ricky Fowler. In the end, Europe’s stars recorded a 16.5-11.5 victory. This means that the USA has not won on European soil for 30 years.
On the final day of the prestigious continental contest, the team selected by European captain Luke Donald started the final twelve singles with a lead of 10.5-5.5.
The stars in the European team were Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland, alongside Fleetwood. The tournament was also a great success for the two Scandinavian Ryder Cup debutants Ludvig Aberg and Nicolai Höjgaard.
