Wild exchange of blows in Cologne, Cottbus and Saarbrücken win

Lots going on in the 3rd league. In the busy week, Viktoria Köln and FC Ingolstadt scored eight goals, the leaders are getting closer together.

It’s a busy week in the 3rd league and Tuesday (October 22nd) already had a lot to offer: an Eastern duel, eight goals in one match and a stumbling league leader. Borussia Dortmund’s second team was also challenged, but had to admit defeat to a goal from a former Essen player.

2582 spectators came to the Höhenberg sports park to watch the match between Viktoria Köln and FC Ingolstadt. And they didn’t regret coming, in the end the points were shared and eight goals were scored. David Kopacz had given FCI an early lead, which Köln managed to turn around before the break through Bryan Henning and Said El Mala – they went into the dressing rooms with a 2:1 lead.

After the break, things got really wild, Sebastian Grönning quickly equalized for the Schanzer (49th). The guests also found answers to Cologne’s opening goals by Lex Tyger Lobinger (51st) and Serhat Semih Güler (71st). Grönning and Benjamin Kanuric (87th) equalized again, making the final score 4:4.

There was a lot more going on in the stands in the East Derby between Erzgebirge Aue and Energie Cottbus. After the 3:1 for the Lusatians, however, only the away fans among the 8,500 spectators in the Erzgebirgstadion were likely to have felt well entertained. Aue were able to equalize the 0:1 by Timmy Thiele before half-time through Erik Majetschak, and in the second half Tolcay Cigerci (81st) and Thiele (90th+4) then decided the game for Cottbus, who jumped to second place overnight.

1. FC Saarbrücken also remains in the top group, level on points with Energie. The Saarlanders beat Hansa Rostock 2:0. League leaders SV Sandhausen had to take a hit, with the 1:1 draw against VfB Stuttgart II meaning the Sandhausen team has not lost in eight games.

Tomorrow, Wednesday (October 23, 7 p.m., RS live ticker), the remaining five games are scheduled, including Rot-Weiss Essen hosting SC Verl. Alemannia Aachen will face SpVgg Unterhaching, 1860 Munich will face VfL Osnabrück. Arminia Bielefeld (at Hannover 96 II) and Dynamo Dresden (at Wehen Wiesbaden) have away trips scheduled.
