Winning streak ended – Stoppelkamp and Co. turn the tide in Cologne

It works after all! Rot-Weiß Oberhausen can still win after all. RWO ended their long winless streak at 1. FC Köln II.

Eight games in a row without a win, including seven draws and one defeat: that was Rot-Weiß Oberhausen’s record before their trip to the second team of 1. FC Köln.

But this streak has finally come to an end – from Oberhausen’s point of view. RWO won 2:0 against the U21 reserve team of 1. FC Köln at the Franz Kremer Stadium. Cottrell Ezekwem (15) and Moritz Stoppelkamp (33) scored from the penalty spot for coach Mike Terranova’s team.

The game started without much sparkle – RWO then took the lead out of nowhere. Kerem Yalcin crossed and Ezekwem headed the ball into the Cologne net.

Meiko Sponsel (24′), who was on loan at Rot-Weiss Essen last season, and Tidiane Touré (27′) had Cologne’s best chances to score in the first half.

Cologne pressed for the equalizer in the second half. However, Meiko Wäschenbach (49) only hit the crossbar, and a minute later Wächenbach failed again – this time against the strong Oberhausen keeper Robin Benz.

And as we all know, all good things come in threes: Wäschenbach tried again in the 53rd minute – but Benz was again the winner!

Both teams then took a longer time-out until Jaka Cuber-Potocnik (78th, 79th) tested Benz again and he made a great save. He was then powerless against Schmitt’s shot in the 82nd minute – Cologne reduced the deficit to 1:2.

But RWO held on for the win and ended their eight-game winless streak.
