While the Regionalliga West has restarted for some teams, Fortuna Köln tested against TSV Steinbach Haiger. Two new players also took part.
Successful end to the January test match for Fortuna Köln. The third-placed team in the Regionalliga West welcomed the Regionalliga Southwest representative TSV Steinbach-Haiger on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to goals from Leon Demaj (47′) and Justin Steinkötter (72′), Cologne secured a 2:1 victory. Christoph Maier’s late equalizer (89′) for the tenth-placed team in the Regionalliga Südwest was ultimately just a waste of time.
Fortuna Köln once again focused on two new signings who should really help the club in the second half of the season. Kevin Rodrigues Pires (previously of Wuppertaler SV) and Kevin Holzweiler arrived within a few hours of each other at the end of January. After he had already played in three test matches as part of the winter preparations, the deal was finally closed: SC Fortuna Köln signed Kevin Holzweiler, who had been without a club for a while.
Forecasting had already reported in December that the attacking player was in training at Fortuna.
Against Steinbach, Rodrigues Pires came on for goalscorer Demaj after around an hour, with Holzweiler replacing Danny Breitfelder after 68 minutes
For the first time, Fortuna Köln will face a serious challenge again on Sunday, February 4, 2 p.m., when SC Paderborn II comes to the Südstadion. Third in the table, Fortuna are currently seven points behind leaders 1. FC Bocholt, but still have a game in hand.
