With Hofmann goal – 2:1 test match win at Dutch second division club

VfL Bochum have won their test match against De Graafschap Doetinchem 2:1 (1:1). The winning goal was scored by striker Philipp Hofmann.

VfL Bochum also used the international break to play a test match. On Wednesday, coach Thomas Letsch’s team traveled to Dutch second division club De Graafschap Doetinchem. The Bundesliga side won the game 2:1 (1:1) in the end.

Three players – Danilo Soares, Philipp Förster and Moritz Broni Kwarteng – were absent due to injury or illness. Goalkeeper Manuel Riemann was also missing from the squad and was replaced by Niclas Thiede between the posts. Anthony Losilla, who was absent against 1. FC Köln, captained VfL again.

Following an agreement with the fifth-placed team in the Eerste Divisie, the match took place without spectators and a live stream could not be offered to VfL fans due to the weather conditions and the unclear situation around the venue.

As a result, they were unable to see Mats Pannewig take to the pitch for the first time since his return. The 19-year-old replaced Losilla for the second half. The talented midfielder, always highly praised by teammates and coaches, had been completely out of action for two-and-a-half months due to patellar tendinitis in both knees, then trained individually and has been back with the team for four weeks.

Coach Letsch sent an eleven onto the pitch in the first half of which only Keven Schlotterbeck and Lukas Daschner, goalscorer against Cologne, also played from the start at the weekend. Noah Loosli formed the central defense with Schlotterbeck, but had to be substituted in the 55th minute with a slight injury.

Felix Passlack and Maximilian Wittek were given the chance to show what they can do at full-back. After both new signings had been set at the start of the season, they no longer played a role. Jordi Osei-Tutu was also able to gain match practice alongside Christopher Antwi-Adjei.

Moritz Broschinski and Goncalo Paciencia formed the double forward line. The pair started playing together as early as the fourth minute. Paciencia sent in Broschinksi, who scored confidently in front of the Graafschap keeper.

Unlike in the game against Cologne, Bochum did not create any great chances in the following minutes. Wittek failed to score from a free-kick. As in the game against Cologne, however, the equalizer came out of nowhere. Levi Schoppema scored for the Dutch side (38′).

Not much happened in the penalty areas for a long time in the second half. It took until the 82nd minute for a cross from Antwi-Adjei to find substitute Philipp Hofmann. While the striker continues to be unlucky in competitive matches, he scored to make it 2:1.
