VfL Osnabrück has made a forward-looking personnel decision. The third division club is taking the next steps with Michael Welling.
VfL Osnabrück and Michael Welling, who once worked for Rot-Weiss Essen and still lives in the Ruhr metropolis, have agreed to extend their cooperation.
Welling has been managing director of VfL Osnabrück since 15 February 2021. The Lower Saxons did not make official until which year he signed a new contract.
“We are very happy that we were able to bring the open and trusting discussions with Michael Welling, which we have had in recent weeks, to a positive conclusion with the contract extension before the end of this year. Michael is doing an outstanding job for VfL and is a tremendous fit for the club in terms of both content and personality.
This is why we are pleased that we were able to extend Michael’s contract after a unanimous decision by the advisory board and that we are able to work on the already initiated and future projects together with him. We want to continue the positive development of the last few months on many levels with continuity in terms of personnel,” Holger Elixmann, President and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Purple and White Club, was quoted as saying in a club statement.
Commenting on his contract extension, Welling said: “When I was allowed to start at VfL in February 2021, the coach at the time was released on my first day of work, and a few months later we had to take the bitter step into the 3rd league. So those were very intensive months in which I was able to get to know VfL, its staff, the committees and the environment. Together, we quickly switched to the mode of shaping things and initiated many important steps. I would like to continue these as part of the team. That is why I am pleased that the committees indicated to me at an early stage and in an appreciative manner that they would like to continue working with me and that we were able to agree on an early extension of my contract in a very uncomplicated way. I am very grateful for the trust placed in me, but I see this above all as recognition for all the employees of VfL Osnabrück for the work they have done under difficult conditions over the last 1.5 years. “
