With professional support and outnumbered – Cologne II beats Wuppertaler SV

1. FC Köln II has ended its losing streak in the Regionalliga West against Wuppertaler SV.

Wuppertaler SV continues to tread water. On Friday evening, the Regionalliga West saw its fourth game in a row without a win – a 1:2 (1:2) home defeat against the second team of 1. FC Köln.

The Cologne reserve team, with 185-time Bundesliga professional Mark Uth in the starting line-up, got off to a lightning start. After just four minutes, the score was 1:0 for the guests. After an impressive combination, the ball was played flat from the right into the middle, where Maximilian Schmid sank the ball into the bottom left corner.

The Cologne team then controlled the ball, but then the WSV came to life in the person of Kevin Hagemann. After two dangerous crosses that went unused by his colleagues, he himself scored from the penalty spot. Marco Terrazzino was fouled and Hagemann converted to make it 1:1 (22nd minute).

Further offensive efforts by the home team came to nothing, and instead the cathedral city team proved to be efficient: Teoman Akmestanli crossed from the left side precisely to Oliver Issa Schmitt, who left WSV keeper Michael Luyambula no chance to defend with his header: 1:2 – the half-time score.

After the break, both teams exchanged a few half-chances. However, it was not really dangerous except for a long-range shot from Emin Kujovic, which Luyambula just managed to deflect around the left post (54th minute).

Until the 74th minute, when 1. FC Köln II had the chance to decide the game: a rebound landed at Schmitt, who shot the ball past the left of the goal from a good position. Then the guests gave away another gift: Neo Telle was shown a yellow card for the second time after a foul on the wing and was sent off (81st minute).

Wuppertal’s numerical superiority was only converted into pressure in the final minutes: Hagemann’s free kick went just wide (90th minute), Riccardo Grym was initially frustrated by Jonas Nickisch’s brilliant save (90+1) before shooting over the bar after a corner (90+3). The equalizer did not come.

WSV’s losing streak continues, while Cologne were able to end their own after four games.
