With Raúl and Co. – Schalke’s legendary transfer summer of 2010

In the legendary summer transfer window of 2010, Felix Magath kicked things off by signing Raúl and Co. Mölders on opponents RWO – “Uhlig is doing an excellent job”

SC Wiedenbrück has eight points after nine games. That’s what coach Sascha Mölders has to say.

No! Sascha Mölders can’t be entirely satisfied with SC Wiedenbrück’s start to the 2025/2026 Regionalliga West season.

“Light and shadow” is Mölders’ answer to the question of how he rates the start with two wins, two draws, and five defeats. “We’ve had games like against Cologne II and in Wuppertal, where we just weren’t good. We didn’t perform well and deserved to lose. It annoys me a lot when the attitude is lacking,” adds Mölders.

However, the 40-year-old SC Wiedenbrück coach has also seen some positive things and is confident that his team will get the results they need down the line.

Mölders says: “We’ve actually always played well at home. Against Lotte, we were on the verge of winning the game and then got the lucky punch shortly before the end. We had a lot of chances against Bochum recently and we simply have to win those games. The same goes for Gladbach last weekend, where we didn’t reward ourselves with three points.”

First of all, I have to say that Marcus Uhlig is doing an excellent job in Oberhausen and is trying to take the club to the next level. He already achieved that with Rot-Weiss Essen.

The former Bundesliga striker, who proved to be ice-cold in front of the opponent’s goal in all leagues, naturally goes crazy on the sidelines because of the many missed chances by his players, especially the strikers.

“Of course, my blood boils and I get those typical striker twitches. It happens automatically. But unfortunately, I can’t do it myself anymore. I always tell the boys that they have to quickly forget about the missed chances and concentrate on the next situation,” explains Mölders.

Nine goals in nine games is, of course, a meager tally. SC Wiedenbrück will have their next opportunity to boost their goal tally on Saturday against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. First of all, I have to say that Marcus Uhlig is doing an excellent job in Oberhausen and is trying to take the club to the next level. He already achieved that with Rot-Weiss Essen. And from a sporting point of view, Oberhausen also has a great squad, but it hasn’t really got going yet. In the end, though, they’ll finish in the top five. We’re expecting a difficult home game against a top opponent.”

Points Table

FB Cup victory in 2011. Remember?

In 2010, Felix Magath completed a transfer window at Schalke that had a decisive influence on the successful years that followed. Among other things, he was able to convince some real top stars to move to Schalke 04.

The Royal Blues signed a total of 13 players that summer. Not all of the new signings made an impact, but most of the names will at least still be familiar to Schalke fans. Some even became club legends.

The transfer that almost everyone thinks of when it comes to Felix Magath at Schalke is that of a Spanish superstar: “Senor Raúl,” as the Schalke fans affectionately called their favorite, came on a free transfer from Real Madrid and is arguably the famous cherry on top of Schalke’s 2010 summer transfer window.

In two years at Schalke, the striker scored 40 goals, won the DFB Cup in 2011 and the Super Cup in 2012, and led the club to the Champions League semi-finals.
