Wollitz after north-east chasing duel – “Honestly? That’s inexplicable for us”

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt and FC Energie Cottbus faced off in the chasing pack in the Regionalliga Nordost. RWE won in the end.

Huge cheers at the Steigerwaldstadion! Rot-Weiß Erfurt defeated Energie Cottbus 2:0 in the Regionalliga Nordost chasing duel – sixth against fourth.

6083 spectators had come to watch the eagerly awaited match and in the end the Erfurt fans saw a deserved winner in red and white after goals from Michael Seaton (12th) and Romain Gall (57th).

Even Cottbus cult coach Claus-Dieter “Pele” Wollitz had to acknowledge that. He summed up: “Honestly? That’s inexplicable for us, because we lacked almost everything you need to win a soccer match in this league. That was not to be expected. Especially after the game on Wednesday, we had thought that we would go into this away game united, with passion and aggressively. None of that was on show. Five to ten minutes after the break is not enough, even if there was a great chance to equalize. We must and will now evaluate this meticulously and draw conclusions from it.”

Erfurt are eleven and Cottbus eight points behind leaders Greifswalder FC. As a reminder, the Regionalliga Nordost champions will be promoted to the 3rd division this season – without having to play a relegation match.

Pronichev plays for FC Energie Cottbus again

The Cottbusers are aiming for this goal. This January, they have strengthened their squad with a former Erfurt player: Maximilian Pronichev. However, he remained pale in comparison to his former employer.

The 26-year-old, who has also played for FC Schalke 04 U19 in the Junior Bundesliga and Rot-Weiss Essen in the Regionalliga West, was already under contract in Brandenburg in the 2021/2022 season. He played a total of 40 competitive matches for FCE, in which he scored 16 goals and set up twelve assists. The 26-year-old was already under contract in Brandenburg in the 2021/2022 season.
