Wuppertal concede first defeat, FCG win promotion duel

Two games were off the schedule in the Regionalliga West. And leaders Wuppertaler SV conceded their first defeat of the season.

Unlike the competition in the Regionalliga West, Wuppertaler SV did not have a match-free weekend. Since WSV had to play the SC Paderborn reserves in the arena due to their away fans, the matchday 7 game was brought forward to save the grass.

The leaders were able to start with the same team that started the previous week against Wegberg-Beeck (2:0) in the Home Deluxe Arena. However, the home side got off to the better start: SCP captain Dominik Bilogrevic scored in the 5th minute to make it 1:0, and shortly afterwards Ilyas Ansah’s supposed 2:0 was conceded for offside (7th) – WSV was not yet in the game.

Zambrano failed to score against the WSV goalkeeper, but the East-Westphalians remained dangerous and defended strongly, even though a Wuppertal goal by Niklas Dams after a corner did not count. So the SCP took the lead into the break.

And they also started the second half more alert. This quickly led to a 2:0 lead through Ansah (53rd), Kevin Pytlik also saw the red card (59th) – WSV didn’t get anything going. The Paderborn team scored the third and fourth goals through Zambrano (70th) and Presley Pululu (81st). The league leaders only managed a consolation goal through wild card Phil Beckhoff.

Wuppertaler SV deservedly suffered their first defeat of the season. The WSV’s 1:4 defeat, however, will please the competition.

FC Gütersloh was also in action this Saturday. Due to their participation in the DFB Cup, they had to play a make-up game of matchday 3 at SSVg Velbert. It was a duel for the promoted team, in which FC Gütersloh ultimately had the upper hand with a 1:0 (1:0).

In a fast-paced game, both teams had their chances in the first half, but the 39th minute provided two highlights: First, Velbert’s Robin Hilger failed to hit the post after a cross, then Kevin Freiberger scored the opening goal for FCG. The score was 1:0 going into the dressing room.

After the changeover, Gütersloh was much more passive, but defended the home side’s efforts passionately and managed to hold on for the away win in a disciplined manner.
