Wuppertaler SV lost the final test of endurance before the start of the Regionalliga. However, coach Hüzeyfe Dogan was satisfied with the result.
At the start of the new Regionalliga season, Wuppertaler SV will face a major test. In the away match at Alemannia Aachen next Friday (7.30 p.m., RS live ticker), they will face one of the favourites for promotion.
WSV also chose an ambitious regional league team for the last test match before the season opener. Southwest top club TSV Steinbach Haiger was waiting – and the Wuppertal team conceded a defeat. They lost the duel 0:2 (0:1) in the Westerwald on Saturday afternoon.
“That was definitely a really good opponent,” coach Hüzeyfe Dogan told the Westdeutsche Zeitung after the final whistle. Even Eintracht Frankfurt had felt that recently. The Steinbach team beat the Bundesliga team 2-1 during the week.
So the WSV could certainly take the defeat against TSV, coached by former Wuppertal player Pascal Bieler, in their stride. Dogan was not dissatisfied either. “In the first half they put us under pressure, we had few solutions at the beginning. But then we got more control and created good scoring opportunities,” the 42-year-old told WZ.
And he continued: “In the second half, we went one better. I am very satisfied with that. We have to be more consistent in the box. It’s annoying when you don’t score goals.”
At the end of the first half, the Bergische fell behind, Arif Güclu put Steinbach in the lead (39th). Nils Fischer increased the lead to 0:2 from WSV’s point of view in the second half (78th). It was also the final score.
