Wuppertaler SV surprisingly lost at SSVg Velbert in the Regionalliga West. FC Wegberg-Beeck, meanwhile, dispatched SV Rödinghausen.
A big surprise at the start of the 9th matchday of the Regionalliga West. Wuppertaler SV suffered a 0:1 (0:1) away defeat at SSVg Velbert.
The visitors, supported by numerous supporters on the back straight, started more courageously and were the more active team at first. However, WSV did not know how to convert their superiority into scoring chances. The tempo and creativity were right, what was missing was the penetrating power.
It was a completely different story for the promoted team. A free kick from half field reached the second post, where Tristan Duschke was right on target and nodded in the ball for 1:0 (34th). It got even worse for the Wuppertal team: After a scuffle, the referee cautioned two WSV players. One of them was Mert Göckan, who had just received a yellow card for a tactical foul (34th minute).
The Velbert team played up again when they were outnumbered. But a sharp cross from Max Machtemes was cleared (42.) and Lamin Touray’s finish was phenomenally saved by WSV keeper Sebastian Patzler.
Despite being shorthanded, Wuppertaler SV initially came out of the dressing room with a hunger for attack, while SSVg Velbert concentrated on counterattacks. But the attacks fizzled out and after an hour, Velbert were again the dominant team. Only the 2:0 would not come.
Only in the final phase did the visitors try to throw everything forward again. But all efforts were nipped in the bud by the home defence. The score remained 1:0.
FC Wegberg-Beeck – SV Rödinghausen 4:1 (4:1)
In the second match of the evening, FC Wegberg-Beeck dispatched SV Rödinghausen 4:1.
Julio Torrens put the home side on the winning track after just twelve minutes. Marc Kleefisch increased the lead to 2:0 after 22 minutes, his sixth goal of the season. Less than five minutes later, Timo Braun made it 3:0.
The 1:3 goal of the guests, scored by Thilo Töpken (33.), did not initiate a comeback. Shpend Hasani restored the three-goal lead before the break (42nd).
It would remain the last goal of the match. After a goalless second half, it remained a 4:1 home win for FC Wegberg-Beeck.
