There was still a lot going on at VfL Bochum on Deadline Day. Two strikers leave the club, a new attacker arrives: Goncalo Paciencia (29).
There was a lot going on at Bundesliga football club VfL Bochum on Friday. Four professionals of the Revierklub were considered transfer candidates before the “Deadline Day”, two of them have left the club: Simon Zoller moved to the second division club FC St. Pauli after a lot of fuss, Luis Hartwig was permanently transferred to the Belgian second division club KV Oostende.
This made it possible for VfL Bochum to strike on the transfer market itself. Spanish media reported the transfer of Goncalo Paciencia on Friday evening, and VfL finally confirmed it: the 29-year-old Portuguese will be loaned out for one year by Spanish first division club Celta Vigo.
The Bochum club signed the former Schalke striker before the end of the summer transfer window at 6 pm.
This gives VfL coach Thomas Letsch an experienced alternative in the centre of attack to the recently hapless attacker Philipp Hofmann, who has been waiting 785 minutes for a goal in the Bundesliga.
Goncalo Paciencia: Relegation with Schalke 04
Pacienica thus returns to the Bundesliga after a year in Spain. Last season, he played 25 times for Celta Vigo in Spain’s highest division, scoring only two goals. His time with Eintracht Frankfurt was more successful. He scored 20 goals in 86 games for the Hessians.
He played for Schalke 04 in the relegation season of 2020/21, and the loan deal with Frankfurt was not crowned with success. He only played 15 times in the Bundesliga for Königsblau (two goals). He was out of action for around four months due to a knee injury and was unable to prevent Schalke’s relegation. He then returned to Eintracht for a year. Only a new test awaits him in the Ruhr area.
