FC Gütersloh appear to be keeping a particularly close eye on their offense when making new signings for the coming season.
FC Gütersloh’s offense has not been one of the highlights of coach Julian Hesse’s team this season. The newly promoted team has scored 38 goals in 31 games in the Regionalliga West so far. That is more than the lower midfield of the 18 clubs.
It is therefore no wonder that the forward line in particular is the focus of attention when planning the squad for the coming season. With Phil Beckhoff (Wuppertaler SV), Gütersloh have already signed a new attacking player. After Jannik Borgmann, the third new signing for next season is now also fixed.
With center forward Luis Frieling, the regional league club has snapped up a talent from the Oberliga Westfalen. The 21-year-old is still scoring goals for SpVgg Vreden. In 27 league games so far this season, he has scored eleven goals and provided two assists (as of April 27). This makes him the club’s top scorer so far this season.
“Luis is a talented young player who can play in all positions in attack. He has good physicality, speed, a drive on goal and is very effective at converting chances,” said sporting director Rob Reekers about the new signing in a club statement.
Frieling played for SpVgg Vreden as a youth player before joining the SC Preußen Münster U-team. There he played his way up to the second team of the current third division club. There he scored six goals in a total of 29 games before returning to SpVgg Vreden for the 2022/23 season. In total, he scored eighteen times in 72 Oberliga games.
Now he will probably be able to prove himself a league higher from next summer – keeping Gütersloh in the league is probably only a matter of time. In the future, the offense should also have even more impact. Frieling should help with this
