Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann injured himself while warming up before the match against SV Elversberg (1:2). Gerald Asamoah has an update.
The international break comes at just the right time for Ralf Fährmann (35). The current FC Schalke 04 number one suffered an injury while warming up before last Friday’s second division match against SV Elversberg and was ruled out. Justin Heekeren replaced him in goal. He could not prevent the embarrassment against the promoted team.
Gerald Asamaoh, team manager of Schalke’s professional team, gave the all-clear for Fährmann on Monday. Examinations have shown that the veteran goalkeeper is only slightly injured.
He is expected to play in the next league match at Fortuna Düsseldorf (Saturday, 25.11., 20:30) after the break. “We assume that he will be back against Fortuna Düsseldorf. It was muscular,” said Asamoah. “It was smart that he didn’t play against Elversberg. That could have made it worse.”
Schalke will be without Fährmann for the agreed test matches on Wednesday (2pm) at Dutch top club PSV Eindhoven and on Thursday in Gelsenkirchen against second division sixth-placed Patro Eisden Maasmechelen.
The same applies to striker Kenan Karaman, who is injured after his collision in the match against Elversberg. The long-term injured Leo Greiml and Marius Müller are also not yet ready for action. Assan Ouédraogo (U17 World Cup) and Yusuf Kabadayi (U20) are away with their national teams.
Schalke: Young players can show themselves in test matches
Paul Seguin and Cedric Brunner, on the other hand, are available again. Brunner is set to get minutes of action again after a long groin injury. The right-back will be sorely missed as Henning Matriciani has not overcome his form crisis.
In the two test matches against opponents from the Netherlands, players from the U-teams will also be used again. “That’s the plan,” confirmed Schalke manager Gerald Asamoah.
