MSV Duisburg remains bottom of the 3rd division after the 11th matchday. The team suffered its sixth defeat of the season against Arminia Bielefeld (0:1).
There was no sign of the hoped-for coaching effect at MSV Duisburg in the second game under Boris Schommers. The 44-year-old’s league debut against Arminia Bielefeld (0:1) also went awry. On the offensive, the Zebras failed to score for the entire 90 minutes.
More than 3,000 Bielefeld fans made the trip to Duisburg and drew attention to themselves in terms of atmosphere and pyro shortly before kickoff. Although the Zebras picked up four points in their two most recent third league games, the Niederrheinpokal loss in Uerdingen in front of more than 14,000 spectators still reverberated.
Nevertheless, the fans stood behind their team – with a clear demand on a large banner: “You screwed up! Finally realize how serious the situation is!” After 75 minutes, they too had had enough and stopped supporting the team.
Boris Schommers made three changes compared to the Unterhaching game. Kolja Pusch, Tim Köther and Phillip König started for Marvin Knoll, Jonas Michelbrink and Chinedu Ekene. Pascal Köpke (injured) did not make the squad. Marvin Senger and Alaa Bakir had to sit in the stands. Thomas Pledl, after a long shoulder injury and almost two months of compulsory rest, at least made the bench again and was allowed to prove himself in the last 20 minutes.
38 minutes nothing happened in a two-fight and completely chance-poor first half. The guests developed a bit more traction in front of goal and took the lead with the first opportunity of the entire match. Arminia combined quickly through Christopher Lannert and ex-Schalker Nassim Boujellab. Fabian Klos was completely free in the five-yard box – exactly where a striker should be – and had an easy game. With the friendly support of the MSV defense, which was completely asleep at this point.
After the restart, the East Westphalians continued to have a lot of possession, the Meiderichers hardly got to the ball. “We want to see you fight” and the first whistles could be heard from the stands, while the completely free Leon Schneider almost headed in for 2:0 (55th). Except for a rebound by Tim Köther from the half left, the Zebras radiated zero scoring danger. In the last minute of the game, Rolf Feltscher came close again from close range (90+6.), but it remained too little in the end. After the defeat in the basement duel, the red lantern of the 3rd league continues to belong to MSV.
Not good conditions for the upcoming derby against Rot-Weiss Essen next Saturday at noon (October 28, 2 p.m.).
