MSV Duisburg fought their way to a 1-1 draw against second-place SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The coaches’ voices.
The score was 1-1 after 90 intense minutes on the 33rd matchday of the 3rd division in the duel between MSV Duisburg and SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
Wiesbaden led for a long time thanks to Johannes Wurtz’s goal (26th), but a late equalizer from Kolja Pusch’s penalty kick (89th) prevented them from closing to within a point of leaders SV Elversberg.
It still looked good after the first half, as coach Markus Kauczinski also admits: “I think that on balance I saw a fair draw. We expected a fighting Duisburg team and that’s exactly what they showed. We had good attacks after a certain time, which also resulted in the goal for us. After that, we left a lot of counterattacking opportunities and it remained 1-0.”
The coach of the promotion candidate saw it differently in the second half: “I am not satisfied with the second 45 minutes. We created little relief, the balls were too quickly back at MSV. We stood well at the back, but it was still dangerous. And then it came as it had to come. We didn’t play smart and that’s why we drew. “
While Wiesbaden mourns the lost three-pointer, MSV Duisburg celebrates a hugely important point in the bottom of the table. The point and the weakening chasers extended Duisburg’s lead over the first relegation spot to seven points.
After the 0:5 defeat in the last home game against Borussia Dortmund II, coach Torsten Ziegner had nevertheless wished for a different performance in half one: “For what we wanted to do, the first half was too boring for me. Wiesbaden stood well and had a few situations. We played much too slowly. Accordingly, we had no chances at all.”
After the break, the 9,214 spectators saw a much improved MSV team. Just as Ziegner liked it: “During the halftime break, we said that we wanted to put more energy into it, and that’s what we did. We did that throughout the second half. In the end, we were rewarded for it, albeit rather late.”
After the equalizer on a penalty kick in the 90th minute, things got wild again on the field. Both teams wanted the winning goal in the final minutes, but no one could reward themselves.
“In the end, you could see that the guys wanted to win the game, which made the last minutes very wild. This is not always wise and we can be happy not to have lost the point again. In the end, we have to and can live with the point,” Ziegner agreed with the draw.
For MSV, it’s already a matter of gaining further ground in the bottom of the table on Tuesday (April 25, 7 p.m.) against Elversberg.
