1. FC Saarbrücken went into the winter break in second place in the table. Now it is also clear who will coach the FCS in 2023.
In recent weeks, there have been repeated discussions about the head coach line-up at 1. FC Saarbrücken.
But since Saturday, 19 November 2022, it is clear: the current interim coach Rüdiger Ziehl will officially become head coach of the Saarland club with immediate effect. This ends the search for a successor to the sacked Uwe Koschinat.
“After intensive consultation, the FCS board has decided that manager Rüdiger Ziehl will continue to coach the team, which is currently second in the 3rd division, as head coach. He will thus perform the dual function of coach and manager in personal union until the end of the season. The executive committee and Rüdiger Ziehl will give a detailed statement on the strategic direction of the club next Monday, 21 November at 2 p.m. in the Victor’s Residenz Hotel am Deutsch-Französischen Garten,” according to a press release from the third division club.
The 45-year-old football coach Ziehl has led Saarbrücken to the winter break in the last six matches as interim coach. His record: five wins, one draw! He had made excellent arguments for staying on as head coach.
