Borussia Mönchengladbach II is playing a good season. They are in second place after 24 games. One offensive force has played a big part in this.
Steffen Meuer has been under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second team for two years.
After nine goals and four assists last season and currently eight goals and four assists, the 23-year-old has played his way into the notebooks of several third division clubs. “I can confirm that there are higher-class enquiries for Steffen,” Chris Richter, Meuer’s advisor, revealed to RevierSport.
No wonder that Meuer, who once moved from Fortuna Düsseldorf to Mönchengladbach and turned down a professional contract at Fortuna for Borussia, is a man of interest for third division clubs.
For Meuer is not a classic centre-forward. He can be used very flexibly, as is popular in today’s football. He can also play on the outside or behind the front line. And regardless of which position he plays: since his first senior stint with Sportfreunde Eisbachtal in the Rheinlandliga, Meuer has always scored double-digit points.
The left-footer will probably leave Borussia Mönchengladbach after two years next summer. Although he also still has a follow-up contract at the Niederrhein. “However, this is only valid for the professionals and Borussia is not planning on using Steffen in the Bundesliga,” says Richter.
It is not yet known where the 1.86-metre tall Meuer will ultimately end up on 1 July 2023. In any case, it will be one class higher. “After Fortuna Düsseldorf II, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s reserve team was the next step. After two years in Gladbach, the 3rd league would now be the logical consequence for Steffen,” explains Richter.
