The 4:1 (0:3) defeat to SC Paderborn II did not give FC Wegberg-Beeck much hope of turning things around in the Regionalliga West.
The situation at FC Wegberg-Beeck is becoming increasingly bleak. The impending relegation of MSV Duisburg would affect the number of teams relegated from the Regionalliga West – four instead of three.
This means that teams up to and including 15th place would be relegated. FC Wegberg-Beeck are currently 16th and the 4-1 defeat at SC Paderborn II does nothing to change that. With a win, Wegberg-Beeck could have overtaken SV Lippstadt 08.
Instead, however, the SCP youngsters left no room for doubt. Joel Vega Zambrano made it 1:0 after six minutes and Nick Otto quickly followed up (20′). When Zambrano completed his brace in the 27th minute and made it 3:0, the game was practically decided.
After the break, Timo Braun made it 1:3 for the third-last team, but was unable to prevent the defeat (74′). On the contrary: Adrian Bravo Sanchez sealed the deal in the 90th minute.
With the win, SC Paderborn II took a big step towards the bottom of the table and moved eight points clear of the probable first relegation place (15th). With five games to go, two more wins should be enough to secure their place in the league.
SSVg Velbert and SV Rödinghausen had already opened the matchday with a goalless draw on Friday evening, which was clearly not enough for the bottom club from Velbert and a chance for the competition
SV Lippstadt wanted to score points in the relegation battle and take advantage of Ahlen (0:3 at Alemannia Aachen) and Velbert. Things looked good early on, but Schalke 04’s U23s turned around Niek Munster’s lead (10th) with goals from Nelson Amadin (19th) and Kelsey Meisel (36th). After the break, substitute Malik Talabidi (55′) increased the lead for the visitors from Gelsenkirchen, Pierre-Michel Lasogga (64′) and Marouane Balouk (90′) rounded off the result to 5:1 from Schalke’s point of view.
Meanwhile, Borussia Mönchengladbach II, currently fourteenth and thus in the first non-relegation place, drew 0-0 at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. FC Gütersloh lost 3-0 at Wuppertaler SV, but with 37 points and twelfth place, they should no longer be in any great trouble in terms of staying in the league.
