Second-division soccer club SC Preußen Münster has introduced a new head coach. The new coach brings a wealth of experience!

SC Preußen Münster has signed Alois Schwartz as its new head coach. The team, currently last in the 2. Bundesliga standings, announced the news on Tuesday.

The 58-year-old succeeds Alexander Ende, who was fired on March 16. The current interim coaches, U23 coach Kieran Schulze-Marmeling and head of the training center Janis Hohenhövel, will serve as his assistant coaches. The contract initially runs through the end of the season.

“Alois Schwartz is a very experienced coach who, with clear leadership and structure, has already shown that he can provide valuable impetus to teams fighting relegation. He knows what it takes to maximize our chances of a successful season finale in this situation,” said Ole Kittner, Managing Director of Sports, Strategy, and Communications, adding: “By bringing in Kieran Schulze-Marmeling and Janis Hohenhövel as assistant coaches, we can draw on a high level of insight and commitment to Preußen Münster. We are convinced that with this setup, we have found the best solution for the challenges ahead.”

Alois Schwartz has been on the sidelines as a coach in the 2. Bundesliga a total of 222 times for 1. FC Nürnberg, Karlsruher SC, SV Sandhausen, and Hansa Rostock. Most recently, he coached the third-division club 1. FC Saarbrücken.

“I’m really looking forward to this challenge and accepted it because I’m convinced that together we can turn things around. The team has already shown that it has the mentality and the quality to compete in this league,” Schwartz said about his new role.

The new coach will be officially introduced at a press conference on Wednesday; he will lead his first training session that afternoon, before gaining further insights under competitive conditions on Thursday in a friendly match against TSV Havelse, which is at the bottom of the third division.

SC Preußen Münster currently trails 16th place—the relegation spot—by two points, as well as 15th place, the first non-relegation spot. On Sunday (April 5, 1:30 p.m.), the team will return to action in the 2. Bundesliga with an away game against Holstein Kiel. For Schwartz and his team, it will be the first of seven must-win games to avoid relegation.
