1860 crashes out of promotion zone – Saarbrücken advances

1860 Munich have lost their place in the promotion zone in the 3rd Football League for the time being due to an autumn crisis.

Due to their third defeat in a row with 0:2 (0:1) at the reserve of Bundesliga team SC Freiburg, the Löwen fell back to fifth place.

After SV Wehen Wiesbaden, 1860 also had to let 1. FC Saarbrücken pass. The Saarland side remained unbeaten in the fifth game under their new coach Rüdiger Ziehl with a 3:1 (3:0) win over promoted VfB Oldenburg, celebrating their fourth success. Waldhof Mannheim’s 2-1 (0-0) win over relegation candidates FSV Zwickau put them back within sight of the promotion region.

At the bottom of the table, VfL Osnabrück increased their cushion on the relegation zone with a 2:1 (0:1) win over SC Verl. SV Meppen remained below the line: The Emsland side hoped in vain for their twelfth successive win in a draw with promoted Rot-Weiss Essen.

Munich slid even deeper into crisis in Freiburg before the end of the year. The Bavarians were unable to counter the goals scored by Lars Kehl (5th) and Mika Baur (64th). Freiburg climbed to second place, but are not eligible for promotion.

This leaves Saarbrücken behind their “real” rivals SV Elversberg (1-0 at SpVgg Bayreuth last Tuesday) and Wiesbaden (1-0 against Dynamo Dresden) in the relegation spot. Marvin Cuni (8th), Julian Günther-Schmidt (25th) and an own goal by Marcel Appiah (31st) made everything clear for the FCS before the break. In the second half, Oldenburg only managed to cosmetically improve the result through Ayodele Adetula (75th).

In Mannheim, Pascal Sohm was the match-winner for the home side with a brace (77th and 90th). Zwickau only managed a temporary equaliser through Yannic Voigt (79th).

Osnabrück turned around an interval deficit against Verl with goals from Erik Engelhardt (73rd) and Omar Traore (87th). The Westphalian guests had taken the lead through Yari Otto (41st).

In the last ten minutes, Essen also failed to take advantage of a yellow card against Ole Käuper to win the game. Shortly before the break, the match had to be temporarily interrupted due to a medical emergency in the interior.
