The FC Schalke U19s have reached the Westfalenpokal final thanks to a 7-0 thumping of FC Iserlohn. It will be a rematch of the final from the 2022/23 season.
FC Schalke 04 has reached the final of the U19 Westfalenpokal. In the semi-final on Tuesday evening, the Royal Blues gave surprise team FC Iserlohn no chance and won 7:0 (3:0). S04 had previously eliminated rivals BVB in the quarter-finals.
After a quarter of an hour, the highly-favored Schalke team took the lead against the regional league team from Iserlohn when Zaid Amoussou-Tchibara put the ball in the box for the first time after a corner from Luca Vozar. The 18-year-old attacker completed his brace shortly afterwards (34′). Shortly before the break, Alexander Ivankin added another goal in the 41st minute to make it 3:0 at half-time after preparatory work from Vincent Carus.
Norbert Elgert’s team left no doubts in the second half and ensured the final decision early on. Just five minutes after the restart, Amoussou-Tchibara scored his third goal to make it 4:0 (50′). Nedzhib Hadzha then fired the ball into the net from the back to make it 5:0 (58′). Osman Turay was responsible for the sixth Royal Blue goal (70′). The final goal was scored by Philip Buczkowski, who directed a header over the inside of the post and into the net to seal the 7:0 final score (86′).
“Iserlohn were a good opponent, but we didn’t let them get into the game. Similar to Dortmund, our current mixed team did really well,” said S04 coach Norbert Elgert to the club media after the final.
This is the third time in a row that FC Schalke have reached the final of the Association Cup. The match will take place on June 1 (12 noon) at the Parkstadion. The last time the Royal Blues were crowned cup winners was in the 2021/22 season.
The opponent in the final has already been decided since the first semi-final on April 17, when SC Paderborn beat SV Rödinghausen 5:0. This will be a rematch of the final from last season. Back then, SCP prevailed 2:1. So Schalke still have a score to settle.
