78 games and 21 goals for MSV Duisburg – this striker is calling it quits

Back in October, this striker said he wasn’t thinking about the end of his career yet. Two months later, it’s all over.

“It’s not that far yet. I’m just taking it day by day. I don’t want to look that far into the future,” Aziz Bouhaddouz told Forecasting on October 19, 2023, when asked when he would end his career.

Less than two months later, it’s all over. The 36-year-old striker and 2018 World Cup participant is ending his career, his current club FSV Frankfurt announced.

A press release from the club, which plays in the fifth-tier Südwest Regionalliga, said: “Attacker Aziz Bouhaddouz has asked FSV Frankfurt for a termination of his existing contract on December 31, 2023. The 36-year-old striker wants to end his football career at the beginning of next year, change his career and has therefore approached FSV Frankfurt with the request to terminate his contract. The club has granted this wish.”

Bouhaddouz’s journey began and ends at FSV Frankfurt

Bouhaddouz only came to the Bornheimer Hang in Frankfurt from the third division club MSV Duisburg last summer on a free transfer. He enjoyed his football training at the traditional club as a youth.

In 2006, he made the leap from the junior to the senior team of FSV Frankfurt; the German-Moroccan laced up his football boots for the black and blue team for another three years before moving to FC Erzgebirge Aue.

The striker’s other clubs include SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Viktoria Cologne, SV Sandhausen, Bayer Leverkusen, FC St. Pauli and MSV Duisburg. Bouhaddouz played 78 games for MSV, scoring 21 goals and providing 15 assists.

Bouhaddouz has made over 280 second and third division appearances in his career, scoring well over 60 goals and providing over 20 assists. As a player for the Moroccan national team, Aziz Bouhaddouz made 17 appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist. In the current season, Bouhaddouz has appeared in a total of 16 competitive games, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
