Rot-Weiß Oberhausen have unveiled their next new player. It is a defensive midfielder.
Dennis Lichtenwimmer, head of sport at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, had made the announcement: In the next seven to eight days, up to four more new players are to be presented. No sooner said than done.
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen have secured the services of Luca Schlax. The defensive midfielder joins the cloverleaves from FSV Frankfurt.
Schlax played in the youth teams at 1. FC Köln and made the leap to the second team in the Regionalliga West in the 2019/20 season.
The 24-year-old played 65 matches in the 4th division for Cologne’s professional youth team. Last summer, the former U19 international then moved to FSV Frankfurt. Schlax played 22 games for the Hessians in the Regionalliga Südwest
RWO is a great club with a lot of tradition and a great atmosphere.

“For our defensive, central midfield, we were looking for another player who would give our future game structure and ball security, who knows the Regionalliga and is up for the task at RWO. We are delighted to have found Luca, a player who wants to get stuck in and is eager to make his first start,” said Lichtenwimmer.
Cologne-born Schlax is looking forward to his new employer: “RWO is a great club with a lot of tradition and a great atmosphere. That’s why I’m really looking forward to the new season. The club has always had a great name and stands for passion and attractive soccer. I can’t wait to get started and be part of the cloverleaves.”
With Schlax, Eric Gueye (Eintracht Norderstedt), Luca Thissen (VfB Homberg), Mehmet Timur Kesim (ETB SW Essen), Leon Kayser (SV Bergisch Gladbach) and Simon Ludwig (Wormatia Worms), six new players have already introduced themselves in Oberhausen. The next three are expected to follow in the coming days.
“Then we would be double-staffed in every position. We would only take action if something were to happen during the preparations. But of course we’d have to discuss that with our board beforehand,” explained Lichtenwimmer.
