Two test matches, two defeats, one injured – new co-coach has arrived

While most of the third division teams have resumed training at home, 1. FC Saarbrücken is in Turkey.

1. FC Saarbrücken has been in Turkey for a few days. In Belek, the Saarlanders are currently preparing for the rest of the season in the 3rd division.

Two test matches have already been played. Both games were lost to Turkish teams.

First, FCS lost 1:2 to Kayserispor, but it was the injury to Bjarne Thoelke that hurt those responsible around coach Rüdiger Ziehl much more than the defeat.

According to a first diagnosis in the hospital in Belek, Thoelke suffered a displaced zygomatic bone injury in a collision, along with accompanying injuries in the area of the eye socket and the upper jaw that have not been fully clarified. Therefore, further examinations at home and, if necessary, surgery indications are necessary to finally get clarity about the extent of the injury and to classify a possible forced break. Thoelke will therefore fly back to Saarbrücken as soon as possible and thus leave the training camp early.

In the second test, Saarbrücken then lost 1:2 to Sivasspor. Saarbrücken will then play their next test match on 14 December at home to SV Auersmacher from the Landesliga.

Rüdiger Ziehl gets new assistant

Personell has changed in the coaching team. 1. FC Saarbrücken have signed Yannic Thiel as an additional co-coach and analyst. The 33-year-old native of Düsseldorf most recently worked as a video analyst for Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg and was Rüdiger Ziehl’s co-coach at TSV Havelse last season.

“Yannic will strengthen our coaching team with very specific areas of responsibility. He will be involved in both active training work and analytical preparation and follow-up. This will put us in a better position for the upcoming tasks in the rest of the season,” head coach and manager Rüdiger Ziehl is certain.

As a player, Thiel brings with him the experience of 104 third division games for Unterhaching and Osnabrück and is already fully involved in preparations for the second half of the season at the training camp in Belek.
