Until Thursday – RWE moves into short training camp

Third division football club Rot-Weiss Essen wants to make the most of the time before the upcoming derby in Duisburg. The team is moving into a short training camp.

Rot-Weiss Essen lost their opening match in the 3rd division on Saturday against SV Elversberg surprisingly clearly with 1:5. Against an effective and offensively strong guest, RWE had a pitch-black day and let themselves be caught off guard at the stadium on Hafenstraße.

This time slot has offered itself because we have a match-free weekend next weekend. It had already been planned for a few weeks that we would do this after the Elversberg game.

From Monday to Thursday, however, the third-division promoted team will first be in a short training camp and will not resume training in Essen until Friday. Niclas Pieper, press spokesman for Rot-Weiss Essen, confirmed this when asked by RevierSport: “It’s a short training camp with a focus on team building. This time slot was suitable because we don’t have a game next weekend. It had already been planned for a few weeks that we would do this after the Elversberg game.” Apart from the injured striker Ron Berlinski, all players are present.

The first main round of the DFB Cup starts next weekend (29 July – 01 August). Essen are not represented because they were defeated by Wuppertaler SV (1:3) in the semi-finals of the Niederrheinpokal last season. SV Straelen qualified from the west. Accordingly, Rot-Weiss will not play a competitive match.

However, coach Christoph Dabrowski’s charges will not sit out completely. A test match against the Essen Oberliga team Spielvereinigung Schonnebeck has been arranged for next Saturday (30 July, 2 pm). This match will take place at the Bäuminghausstraße in Essen-Altenessen. For now, however, the focus is on the short training camp.
