Champions League Round of 16: Chelsea and Dortmund fight to progress

Chelsea FC desperately need a win against Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie tonight (9pm CET) if they are to avoid elimination. The first clash went to the Bundesliga side 1-0 three weeks ago.

Season to forget?

In the Premier League, Chelsea are far from the top in tenth place. If they also fail in the European Cup, the Londoners can finally chalk up the season as a failure. Nevertheless, coach Graham Potter is doing so with confidence ahead of the match against Dortmund.

“Believe it or not, the mood has been positive throughout. You’re not happy, joking and smiling when you lose, of course. But at the same time there was mutual support, a good team spirit and good vibes,” Potter said.

Dortmund: Will Kobel play?

Borussia Dortmund have won all of their last ten games in the Bundesliga and are level on points with league leaders Bayern Munich. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is ailing, and the Swiss player was absent last time out against Leipzig. Alexander Meyer is available as a substitute.

Benfica Lisbon and Club Bruges also meet this evening. Lisbon won the first leg 2-0 and, as hosts, have the best prospects of advancing to the quarter-finals.
