Duisburg withdraws from bidding process for 2027 World Cup

Duisburg is withdrawing its bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup as part of Germany’s bidding process.

The city confirmed on Thursday that the roof of the arena in Duisburg is so badly damaged that it cannot be renovated by 31 December 2026. But according to FIFA statutes, all renovation work would have to be completed by then. The German Football Association is bidding together with the national associations from the Netherlands and Belgium to host the 2027 World Cup. Duisburg had originally participated together with Düsseldorf, Dortmund and Cologne.
