After the search for a coach, MSV Duisburg still has another open issue. President Ingo Wald would prefer to solve Ralf Heskamp’s succession internally.

MSV Duisburg has settled the coaching issue with the signing of Boris Schommers. However, the question of the successor to sporting director Ralf Heskamp remains open. President Ingo Wald also commented on this during the presentation of Schommers.

After Heskamp’s dismissal, the club announced that chief scout Chris Schmoldt and Branimir Bajic would initially take over the duties of the sports director in pairs. While Bajic also stepped in as Engin Vural’s co-coach, Schmoldt played a leading role in the search for a coach.

Wald could also imagine such a concept for the future, while a single successor is not currently being sought. “At the moment, this is not an issue. We think that Ralf Heskamp’s tasks can be redistributed on two shoulders.”

Wald hopes for Schmoldt and Bajic

In the best case, the president would even like to continue with Bajic, who is currently back in his home country of Bosnia-Herzegovina, however, and Schmoldt. “That’s our consideration, but it’s not fixed and it’s not in the clear, because the talks with Chris and Baja have to be held first.”

The president could not give an exact date when the decision will be made. “As a first step, we wanted to clarify the coaching issue because it seemed to us to be clearly more important in terms of priority,” Wald explained. Now the next construction site is to be closed “relatively promptly”.

Exactly how the distribution of tasks will look then, that would again have to result from the talks. “There we are still in the exchange. Chris and Baja also have to be convinced that they want to take on these tasks. That is first of all a wishful thinking on our part. I believe that Chris and Baja also have their ideas about how they want to fill the positions. We will discuss that.” Until then, the Schmoldt – Bajic duo will remain a temporary solution for now.
