With just three points from the second half of the season, TuS Bövinghausen have slipped into the relegation battle in the Oberliga Westfalen.
On 03.12.2023, TuS Bövinghausen won 3:2 against SpVgg Vreden. Since then, there have been twelve defeats and as many victories as there have been changes of coach: one.
In the meantime, TuS has even slipped into the relegation battle in the Oberliga Westfalen and has a four-point lead over the relegation places. “The boys now also know that we won’t make it if we don’t pick up any points,” says coach Danny Voß. “It’s an exceptional situation for the boys. They are thrown into a team that isn’t playing at the top and have to perform immediately. It’s unbelievable what is demanded of the boys.”
Bövinghausen had to make a huge upheaval in the winter. Voß recognizes the difficulty of the situation, but is nevertheless aware of the pressure to produce results. Despite the current situation, he is delighted with the development of his team.
“We can see that we are getting closer. The players are being prepared more and more for the Oberliga. The team’s development is positive and it’s a success to be able to get three points at all. But the fact is: we don’t have much time.”
“The better team” against Erkenschwick
The head coach is trying to emphasize the positive aspects of the current situation, even if he knows that it won’t go down well from the outside: “We were the better team against Erkenschwick and lost 1-0. If we had won, everyone would have said ‘what happened there? In the results-based sport of soccer, you haven’t achieved anything, but for someone who draws out the positives, that’s a success.”
Some of the new arrivals from the winter also do not speak German. According to Voß, the language barrier is also slowing down the team’s integration
The fact is: we don’t have much time.

In any case, the coach recognizes a clear improvement in performance on the pitch. He reports many situations “in which we keep creating chances, but we keep making individual mistakes.”
Although the TuS coach is positive about the upcoming games, he also knows that it will continue to be difficult: “I’m optimistic about the situation. I can see what the team is offering during the week. However, three points would not be enough from my point of view.”
Even if the signs are not good, Voß still believes that Bövinghausen can stay in the league. “It’s possible to take something with you if you have the momentum or the opponent isn’t quite there.”
Bövinghausen will travel to Preußen II in Münster on Sunday, where the ball will roll from 3 p.m.
