Ahead of the away game at MSV Duisburg, Alemannia Aachen announced a great initiative for an MSV fan who is ill.

On Saturday (November 29, 2 p.m.), MSV Duisburg will face Alemannia Aachen at home in the 3rd Division. It will be a great atmosphere in the nearly sold-out stadium.

About 27,000 tickets had already been sold, and the Aachen fans have snapped up all the tickets made available. 4,800 Aachen fans will be traveling to Duisburg to support their team.

And the club announced that Aachen fans will also have the opportunity to donate their cup deposit in Duisburg—all for a good cause.

The donations will benefit 12-year-old Lea. She is a huge MSV fan and was diagnosed with bone cancer earlier this year. Since then, Lea has been battling the disease through numerous treatments. In addition to several rounds of chemotherapy, she recently underwent surgery to remove a section of her femur, which was replaced with a prosthesis. Further rounds of chemotherapy will be necessary to defeat the disease.

The Aachen club announced that the cup donations will be used to cover Lea’s parents’ lost wages as well as other related expenses. Additionally, the funds will help provide Lea with special moments and experiences.

Containers for the cup donations will be set up in the area around the Aachen fan block. A statement reads: “Some things are more important than any rivalry. That’s why we want to support the charitable campaign organized by Duisburg’s active fan base at the upcoming away game. Lea is a passionate MSV fan, just as we are passionate Alemannia fans.”

From a sporting perspective, this is the first matchup between the two historic clubs in the 3rd League. Outside of the 3rd League, the two teams have faced each other many times. Duisburg has 22 wins and 19 losses to its credit. Sixteen matches ended in a draw.

The record isn’t quite as balanced for Duisburg. Alemannia Aachen has rarely come away with a win here. They’ve managed just four wins in 28 matches against MSV. Alemannia’s last win at Wedau came on December 18, 2009, when they prevailed 2-0 in a Second Division match. Babacar Gueye scored twice in front of over 16,000 spectators that day.
