“Déjà-vu” – That’s why Koulis felt reminded of the Wattenscheid duel

Preußen Münster’s 5:3 victory over Viktoria Köln will live long in the memory. Double goalscorer Niko Koulis drew a comparison with a match from the previous season.

It was the highlight of the 35th matchday in the 3rd division: an eight-goal spectacle between Viktoria Köln and Preußen Münster, which the visitors were able to turn into a 5:3 away win after trailing 3:1.

Defensive man Niko Koulis scored twice in the process. He has “not scored a double header so often” in his professional career, he grinned after the game. In the interview on “Magenta Sport”, the 24-year-old nevertheless wanted to focus on the team’s performance and unbridled determination:

“You have to have that luck as a defender to be in the right place and get the chances. But that wasn’t an individual achievement. We said at half-time that we would get the three points and believed in it as a team right to the end. As a result, I feel pure emotion and joy.”

The course of the game after the break briefly reminded the Berlin native of a special duel from the previous season. In that match, the Eagles were crowned champions of the Regionalliga West and ultimately returned to professional soccer. “I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t déjà vu from the Wattenscheid game,” said Koulis after the Cologne spectacle.

The craziest game of the past season was probably the one Münster played against SGW 09. In the Lohrheide Stadium, Münster initially let a comfortable 4:1 lead slip away in the second half and conceded a 4:4 equalizer in the last minute of regular time.

However, the SCP turned out to be mentality monsters, defied the ice-cold blow in the final phase and crowned the madness with the 5:4 winning goal in the last action of stoppage time. They still seem to have those comeback qualities.

Koulis confident ahead of final spurt: “Can beat any opponent”

The Prussians are top of the table in the second half of the season. 36 points from 16 games played – including eleven wins – is a fantastic tally and is worthy of a promoted second division team. With three matchdays to go, Münster currently occupy the relegation place in the official table and are in a strong position.

Koulis spoke confidently to the club media outlet “nullsechs.TV”: “We know what quality we have and that we can beat any opponent if we get up to 100 percent.”

With 1. FC Saarbrücken, SC Verl and SpVgg Unterhaching, head coach Sascha Hildmann’s team will nevertheless have to face opponents in the final spurt who are anything but run-of-the-mill. The central defender knows that too: “There are still three games to go. Three long games, three tough games. But we’re optimistic. “
