3:2 in Leipzig – BVB scraps its way into the final of the German championship

Borussia Dortmund has reached the final of the German championship. After a goalless first leg, RB Leipzig was defeated 3:2 in the second leg.

The semi-final for the B-Junior Bundesliga championship between RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund promised plenty of excitement. The teams drew 0-0 in the first leg, with few goalmouth scrambles on either side.

The second leg got off to an even more turbulent start: BVB took the lead after just 68 seconds in front of 1587 spectators. A corner from Fritz Fleck slipped through to Ousmane Diallo, who shot into the net from a few meters out. RB keeper Fernando Dickes was still there, but was unable to prevent the strike.

Leipzig then worked to equalize. Lionel Voufack, brother of RWE professional Eric Voufack, crossed from the left to Cenny Neumann, who headed just wide of the goal in the penalty area (10′). In the 19th minute, it was again the conspicuous Voufack who caused a stir. Maddox Stadel extended his cross at the first post and forced BVB goalkeeper Leon Herdes into a brilliant save.

Nevertheless, Dortmund went into half-time with a 1:0 lead. Tim Degener had the chance to score BVB’s second goal with a powerful shot from the second row, but Dickes made a superb save for a corner (29′). Leipzig also created further opportunities in an even first half, but the ball could not be put on target

The second half started just like the first – with a goal for BVB. Diego Ngambia Dzonga converted a free-kick from the left edge of the penalty area directly (49′) to make it 2:0, a goal worth seeing. The Red Bulls responded with furious attacks: Herdes deflected a long-range shot from Joyeux Masanka Bungi just wide of the far post (56). The subsequent corner kick was also highly dangerous, but RBL once again failed to beat Borussia’s strong goalkeeper.

Leipzig show morale, but score too late

Leipzig had the chances, but Dortmund scored the goals. BVB scored the third goal completely out of nowhere: Two RB players got in the way of a Diallo through-ball and unintentionally laid it off for Fleck, who suddenly found himself free in front of goal and confidently slotted the ball home (60′). Despite trailing 3-0, Leipzig refused to give in and proved their morale.

Lennox Eilke made it 1:3 after Masanka Bungi managed to get through in the tightest of spaces in the sixteen (90.+1). The five minutes of stoppage time had even more drama to offer: Herdes could only deflect a shot forward from powerful RB striker Masanka Bungi and Amos Gerth dusted it off to make it 2:3 (90.+5). In the end, however, BVB managed to hold on to the result and advance to the final.

There, the record champions of the B-Junior Bundesliga (three titles), which will be played in this form for the last time this season, will face either Eintracht Frankfurt or Bayer Leverkusen. The final will take place on May 12
