Training interrupted – Schallenberg injured

The weather causes Schalke 04 to cancel training and a planned fan campaign also has to be postponed

After a joint white-water rafting session and the Blue-White Night on Thursday, the Schalke 04 professionals had to sweat again on Friday morning. Combination play in confined spaces was the main focus of the training session, during which two players had to cut back: Bryan Lasme and Ron Schallenberg.

Striker Lasme continues to be plagued by muscular problems and only did running laps around the training pitch. The Frenchman is also definitely out for the test match against Ukrainian top club Dynamo Kiev on Saturday (4pm, Mittersill stadium). Lasme is not expected to return to team training during the training camp. But: A long-term absence is not feared. Schalke are currently assuming that Lasme will be able to train again next week.

Schalke: Thunderstorm causes training to be interrupted

Ron Schallenberg also did some running laps after taking a knock to his thigh in the test match against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday (2:4). Further examinations will follow and he is also doubtful for the test against Kiev.

However, the weather took over the main role in the morning training session on Friday – as a thunderstorm passed over Mittersill at around 11am. When the lightning came dangerously close to the training pitch, the session was interrupted. Most of the fans fled into their cars in the heavy rain or made their way to the town center. But after a short break, coach Karel Geraerts sent the professionals back out onto the pitch. At 11.36 it was over.

Schalke: Photo session also postponed

The traditional photo of the team with the fans, which was originally planned after training, also had to be postponed. Weather permitting, it will take place after the afternoon training session (start: 4 p.m.)
