BVB and Schalke exchange blows

Taylor Swift makes a guest appearance in Gelsenkirchen. The city uses this for a big campaign, BVB for a slogan. Schalke counters creatively.

“X” (formerly Twitter) is glowing these days. One reason for this is Taylor Swift, whose concert tour “The Eras Tour” is currently making a guest appearance in Germany, more precisely in Gelsenkirchen. The US-American is giving a total of three concerts in the Veltins Arena, which is normally the home ground of FC Schalke 04. The official “Eras Tour” account keeps fans up to date – and shares lots of other things that make “Swifties” happy. For example, song lines

Borussia Dortmund’s English-language X account immediately jumped on board. Gelsenkirchen is currently under discussion. International media are picking up on the campaign surrounding the hanging of “Swiftkirchen” signs, the “Taylor Town” on Heinrich König-Platz and Swift’s stone on the Gelsenkirchen “Walk of Fame”. The Dortmund team tease, alluding to the size of the Signal Iduna Park compared to the Veltins Arena

Schalke takes aim at BVB for Germany game

Schalke, on the other hand, did not take this lying down for long. The official Veltins Arena account issued a short reminder of the BVB stadium’s recent problems, which became apparent around the German European Championship match against Denmark.

The match had to be interrupted due to a heavy thunderstorm. At the corners of the stadium roof, water came down in torrents. Danish fans “showered” under the unexpected waterfall and the pictures attracted widespread attention. The official account of FC Schalke 04 acknowledged this amusing confrontation with a few smileys, which can be understood as an expression of schadenfreude at the blunder the Dortmund fans had stepped into

In the evening, the Schalke players will even be at the third and final Gelsenkirchen concert of the “Eras Tour”. The aim of this special event is for the newly formed team of eleven players to get to know and understand each other better off the pitch. “I’m not a ‘Swiftie’, but it’s important to me that we do something together,” said Schalke coach Karel Geraerts after the win in Verl. “The women are also involved and we are all together.” His music style is more like Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren and electronic music
