2:5 after 2:0 – Knappmann eleven gives early lead out of hand

On the 4th matchday of the Landesliga 3 Niederrhein, BW Mintard conceded their first defeat of the current season against promoted Adler Frintrop (2:5).

DJK Blau-Weiß Mintard got off to a good start in the new Landesliga season. With seven points from three games, coach Christian Knappmann’s team was in second place before the fourth matchday and could even have taken the lead in the standings with a win against Adler Frintrop. But it was not to be. On their home artificial pitch, the Mülheim team lost 5-2 (2-2) to the strong promoted team.

At first, however, everything looked different. In heavy rain, Mintard took the lead with a goal by Moreno Mandel in the fifth minute of the game. 13 minutes later, Serkan Güzel converted a penalty to lead 2-0. “It was good because we completely adjusted to the opponent. In the first 25 minutes, it only went one way,” Knappmann explained after the game.

His counterpart Marcel Cornelissen seemed at a loss at the beginning: “After the 0:2 we were a bit worried. The first goal was scored quickly and quite easily. The second, the penalty, he can’t give like that. “

Before the break Frintrop equalised

After the good start, the Knappmann team seemed to have changed. Frintrop equalised before the half-time whistle thanks to goals from Yannick Reiners (32nd) and Luca Toepelt (45th) and continued right there after the change of ends.

In the second half, Reiners (53rd) and Luca Brechmann (55th) again turned the game in favour of the visitors within a very short time. There was no sign of Blue and White in the second half. In the 66th minute, Toepelt scored a brace to seal the victory. In the end, it remained a bitter 2:5 from Mintard’s point of view.

Cornelissen: “The reaction was sensational. “

“We left the plan. I think we saw what that leads to. The second half was a mirror image of the last 20 minutes of the first half,” said Knappmann, describing the reasons for the first defeat of the season.

Cornelissen was visibly delighted with his team’s performance after the final whistle: “The reaction was sensational. We deserved to equalise. In my opinion, the 5:2 score is also justified in terms of the amount. We had many chances to score even more goals.”

Both teams now have an English week ahead of them. On Tuesday, there is a district cup and on matchday 5, Mintard has to play DV Solingen (25 September, 3:30 p.m.), Frintrop receives 1st FC Wülfrath on the same day (3 p.m.).
