The defending champions faced Blau-Weiß Langenberg in the semi-finals. SSVg had everything under control and quickly took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Aliosman Aydin and Leon Miguel Zahran. Then a shot from Lorenz Luke Fehrig slipped through the Velbert keeper’s fingers and brought more excitement. It was only in the final minute of the game that Lirik Krasniqi made everything clear with his 3:1.

“Langenberg stood deep, like a wall,” said SSVg coach Rekkas Panagiotis afterwards. “But we stayed calm and were rewarded.” In fact, Langenberg mostly stood deep in their own half with all four outfield players and allowed SSVg the ball. A tactic that was all the more effective in view of the fact that the game was played on handball goals.

In the second semi-final, TVD Velbert faced AS Stella Azzurra and went behind early on (5th minute). After that, TVD set the tone, but had to accept a bitter 0:2 in the second 15 minutes due to a double deflected free kick. TVD itself remained harmless in attack for a long time, but was able to tie the game up again with a powerful shot from the halfway line. However, there was only a brief moment of suspense as Leon Frenkel restored the gap to 3:1 in an almost direct counter-attack.

SC Velbert secured fifth place in the play-offs. A 0:1 deficit at the break was turned into a 2:1 victory against Türkgücü. The match for third place was a rather one-sided affair, but this was not reflected in the result. TVD Velbert was highly superior, but only won the game 1:0 through Athanasios Xiros, who scored the golden goal at the break.

One-sided story in the final

In the final, SSVg Velbert showed who was boss on the pitch right from the start. Coach Rekkas Panagiotis’ team won 3:0 and were already 2:0 up at the break. Lirik Krasniqi and Aliosman Aydin scored after a picture-book counter-attack in the first half, with Nico Fuchs adding the final goal

“We scored a lot of goals, we’re the top scorer – really perfect.”

Rekkas Panagiotis

Rekkas Panagiotis was over the moon about winning the city championships: “I think we played brilliantly from the first matchday. We’re playing a great season, I’m very happy with my team.” Krasniqi was also top scorer.

“It’s amazing how quickly our team has grown together,” continued Panagiotis. “They are young, dynamic lads who are up for it. We’ve scored a lot of goals and are the top scorers – really perfect. “
