Essen-born Leon Klußmann finds a new club

Leon Klußmann has not played a minute this season. Now he is moving from the regional league to the 3rd division.

Leon Klußmann was once considered a great goalkeeping talent. Born in Essen, he played for RWE in the junior ranks and joined Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

He spent six years at the BVB youth academy until the summer of 2021. For half a year, until January 2022, he was also part of the U23 squad at Westfalen. But he didn’t make it to the senior team.

Now the 21-year-old is returning to Dortmund. BVB’s U23s reacted to the injury to goalkeeper Tiago Estevao and signed the out-of-contract Schlussmann. He signed a contract dated until June 30, 2025. In the first half of the 2023/2024 season, he played for southwest regional league club KSV Hessen Kassel, but did not play a game after an injury and agreed with KSV in the winter to terminate his contract. Forecasting reported.

“I’m totally happy, I still know everything here very well and I’m happy to be able to train with a team again,” says Klußmann.

“We’re happy that we were able to come to an agreement with Leon Klußmann so quickly after Tiago Estevao’s withdrawal. Leon has already shown here in the past that we can rely on him, and he didn’t hesitate for a second when we asked him,” said Ingo Preuß, sporting director of the U23 team, explaining the young goalkeeper’s transfer.

After his sacking by Kassel, Klußmann was fighting spirit and emphasized to this editorial team: “The six months in Kassel were ultimately a waste of time. When I signed, I was assured that there would be a fair fight for the place in the goal. Then, a week before the start of the season, a new keeper was brought in and made number one. Then I was sitting on the bench, then in the stands. I want to start over in the new year and finally be in the box regularly to show what I’m made of.” He can now do that at his former club BVB.
