At Rot-Weiss Essen, there is currently another big topic in addition to the dream of the 2nd Bundesliga: contract negotiations.
Will he stay and extend his contract or will he leave Rot-Weiss Essen after two years in the summer of 2024? That is the question that the red-and-white environment is currently asking itself with regard to coach Christoph Dabrowski. But also with regard to key players like Felix Götze – Forecasting reported. In addition to the coaching contract, 15 player work papers are also expiring.
Marcus Uhlig has now spoken to the portal “jawattdenn.de” about the current state of affairs regarding Dabrowski.
When asked why Dabrowski’s contract is not yet extended, the chairman of the Essen board said: “It’s not stuck, but extending a contract is not a simple matter of writing down three numbers. It’s a complex process. Before we get to the numbers, there are discussions at various levels regarding background or potential analyses of what we as a club can do in the coming season, what personnel changes we want to make, what went well and what went badly. The process has been going on for a long time, but I won’t give a date for when we’ll announce something.”
Uhlig has never made a secret of the fact that he is a great supporter of Dabrowski. He fought for the 45-year-old football teacher to sign a two-year contract at Hafenstraße in the summer of 2022 and also vehemently stood up for him when some of the RWE fans loudly and repeatedly demanded Dabrowski’s dismissal last season.
Looking back, Uhlig says: “I always had and still have the opinion that we have to push something through even against the resistance of the stands or the media if we are convinced of our path. I’m glad it worked because I personally stood up for Christoph Dabrowski.”
The RWE coach recently emphasized again and again with regard to a possible contract extension that the perspective had to be right. That the club also had to develop in certain areas. Dabrowski, for example, is considered a great supporter of training camps. The club was unable to fulfill this wish in winter 2024.
“But I can already say for the coming season that we are planning two training camps, one in summer and one in winter,” said Uhlig. Dabrowski will be happy to hear that.
